Fearing God

Remember the Sabbath…the Lord’s Day

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy (Exodus 20.8).

Founding Socklint/Dark Roast Web Services

I am going to take the MLA/APA style gloves off for a moment and do this thing first person:

I founded Socklint.com—which is now Dark Roast Web Services—as a Christian. My Christianity is not a part of my life; It is my life. I am very serious about pleasing God in all things, and that includes how I run my business. Moreover, while the internet—which I enjoy working on—is a 24/7 operation, Dark Roast is not. I may lose income, but lest we forget, he who dies with the most toys, still dies. Life is not about eating, drinking, and being merry, but obeying God and as a result enjoying our callings. This is not supposed to be a sermonette. It is an explanation of why this business is different. While DRWS is not registered as an NPO, it is my purpose to run it in a way that is not like a typical commercial venture. I want very much to run this business honestly and obediently to God. Dark Roast won’t likely be the low-price leader, I want to run a service leader and a quality leader; I cannot do that for free. However, that does not require the highest prices around.

The End of the Matter

The big deal is this: I don’t want business that will cause me to discredit my Christian profession or disgrace Christ my savior, and with God’s grace, I won’t. Most of us have lights to keep on; it’s not like we don’t need money. However, I don’t want the lucrative job that will grieve my God, my church and my family, when I sin to keep it.

So, if you think you have the job that will make it worth it for me to break the Sabbath, please give it to someone else.
